  Perlis Indera Kayangan

Perlis is the smallest state in Malaysia. Kangar is at present the state capital and Arau is the royal town of the Raja of Perlis. The word Perlis appears to be a version of the word perelus, that is soil that gives way when stepped upon or where a hole is unexpectedly met with. It may be that the name was given to the land because of its marshy nature. In 1821, Perlis was made a separate state by the Siamese after Siamese invasions and subsequent occupation of the country.
